Hundreds of Knoxville-area residents could play a role in preventing cancer.

The American Cancer Society is conducting a nationwide study to learn more about what causes cancer, and how to prevent it.

So far, 600 people in Knoxville have signed up. If you have not added your name to the list yet, there will be an opportunity Tuesday night.

The ACS will be at two Knoxville YMCA locations. It's looking for men and women, ages 30 to 66 who have never had cancer.

Researchers will follow participants for up to 30 years, gathering information through a series of lifestyle surveys.
