If you live in the Oak Ridge area, you may hear some different-sounding sirens Wednesday, but don't be alarmed.

The Y-12 public warning siren system has been replaced and the vendor, American Signal, will test the new sirens between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Officials say it may require testing each siren individually, and testing some at the same time. They warn the new sirens could be louder than the old ones.

They're in place to alert the public of an actual emergency at Y-12. But again, Wednesday's exercise is a test.
