Knox County Schools celebrated Thank a Teacher Week by accepting a book donation on Friday.
Leadership Knoxville donated 20 copies of the book "Dexter, the Heart of a Hero" to the system's elementary schools.
The book chronicles the life of a little dog named Dexter who is bullied by a cat but dreams of being a superhero. It demonstrates how determination, spirit and leadership can help a person accomplish big things, no matter how small.
"We hope that they will learn that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. Anyone can be a leader, and you change not only your own life, but also the lives of others," said Leadership Knoxville CEO Tammy White.
After the presentation, students at Inskip Elementary got to listen to a reading of the book.
The school is one of five to pilot the first grade reading intervention program which has now been expanded across the system.
