A crash involving a Rural/Metro ambulance has killed two young women.
The wreck happened Tuesday morning near the Bradley/Meigs county line. The women were the driver and passenger of a pick-up. Both died shortly after the crash.
There were five people in the ambulance, including a nurse, two paramedics, and a special needs patient and mother.
The ambulance did not have its lights or sirens on because it was taking the patient to a scheduled doctor's appointment.
"The 1997 pick-up truck for some reason was traveling northbound in the southbound lane and it was a head-on collision," said Janice Atkinson with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department.
Both victims were women in their 20s who lived less than a half-mile from the accident.
The five people on the ambulance were all treated for non-life threatening injuries.
