Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Ian Clark scored 15 points as the Belmont
Bruins knocked off the Stanford Cardinal 70-62 at Maples Pavilion.
Kerron Johnson added 14 points, Blake Jenkins put in 11 and Trevor Noack
tacked on 10 for Belmont (3-0) which remains unbeaten.
Stefan Nastic had 11 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double for
Stanford (3-1). Christian Sanders finished with 11 points and Chasson Randle
chipped in 10 on just 1-of-11 shooting. Josh Huestis pulled down a game-high
14 rebounds.
Belmont led 33-25 at halftime after holding Stanford to just 9-of-29 shooting
including misses on all eight 3-point attempts. Belmont meanwhile hit on 14-
of-37 attempts including 3-of-11 from beyond the arc.
The Bruins led by as many as 14 points in the second half but Stanford managed
to take a 53-52 lead with just over six minutes remaining. However the Bruins
outscored the Cardinal 18-9 over the final six minutes while hitting 6-of-8
free throws in the final minute to earn the win.
Stanford lost despite owning a 48-39 edge on the boards. Belmont outscored
Stanford 18-6 from beyond the arc. Stanford missed its first 12 shots from
3-point range and finished 2-of-19 from distance overall.
