Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Derrick Williams scored a career-high 26
points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Richmond Spiders over the Wake
Forest Demon Deacons, 62-60, in non-conference play at the Robins Center.
Williams shot 6-of-8 from the field while making 13-of-15 free-throw attempts
for the Spiders (6-2). Kendall Anthony joined him in double-figure scoring
with 11 points off the bench.
Devin Thomas led Wake Forest (3-4) in scoring with 11 points to go with six
rebounds. Tyler Cavanaugh scored 10 points off the bench while Travis McKie
scored nine points and led the team with eight rebounds.
Richmond led 32-29 at halftime despite allowing the Demon Deacons to shoot
52.9 percent from the field and knock down all three tries from three-point
range.
Late in the second half the lead was traded back and forth, but after a made
3-pointer by Anthony with 1:11 remaining the Spiders took the lead and
held on until the final buzzer.
The Wake Forest bench outscored Richmond's reserves 27-14 but the performance
by Williams was enough to lift the Spiders to their second consecutive win.
