Northridge, CA (Sports Network) - Ross Rivera provided a huge spark off the
bench with 16 points in 18 minutes to lift the Pacific Tigers to a 74-62
victory against the Cal State Northridge Matadors in a Big West Conference
bout at The Matadome.
Travis Fulton tallied 12 points for Pacific (9-8, 3-2 Big West) as it earned
its fourth win in five games. Lorenzo McCloud contributed 10 points and five
assists while all 10 of the Tigers who saw action managed to make a mark in
the scoring column.
The Matadors (9-9, 0-6) remained the only team in Big West without a
conference win despite a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds by Stephen
Maxwell. Josh Greene finished with 12 points and four steals, Stephan Hicks
scored 11 points, and Allan Guei added 10. Northridge's bench was outscored
36-6 in the setback.
The hosts made 41.2 percent of their attempts from the field and knocked down
4-of-5 from 3-point range in the first half, but they still went into the
break trailing, 45-30, after the Tigers shot a red-hot 61.5 percent from the
floor. Rivera tallied 13 of his points in the opening 20 minutes to set the
tone.
Northridge attempted to rally back after halftime by improving to hit 41.7
percent of its field goal tries, but it could get no close than six points as
Pacific converted 9-of-12 at the charity stripe to protect its lead.
The Tigers outscored the Matadors, 21-5, in points off of turnovers to escape
with the road triumph.
