Oak Ridge middle school teacher indicted on sex charges

Authorities in Oak Ridge have charged a middle school teacher with six counts of having sex with a former student.

The indictment charges Montgomery "Monty" Koons with three counts of aggravated statutory rape and three counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.

Koons surrendered to police yesterday and is free on $50,000 bond. He remains on unpaid leave from Jefferson Middle School, where he is a sixth-grade teacher.

Investigators say Koons had sex several times last summer with a former student who is now in high school, but who is under 17 years old.

Koons has taught at the middle school for 20 years.
