
A Roane County man whose wife died suspiciously will face a federal judge Friday. The Tennessee Bureua of Investigation continues to look into a his wife's death at their Rhea County house. A 911 call was made from a home on East Roddy Road in Rhea County early Saturday morning. The caller, 33-year-old Daniel Hampton, told dispatchers his wife had just shot herself in the head. Dorothy Faye Hampton died before help could arrive.
A TBI spokeswoman said the agency is investigating Hampton's death and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
Daniel Hampton is now in federal custody.
Officials said he was taken into custody as part of a "long-term" investigation between the Roane County Sheriff's Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Hampton faces federal drug conspiracy and felony possession of a firearm charges.
A hearing is set for Friday morning in U.S. District Magistrate Judge Bruce Guyton's courtroom.
Roane County investigators are cooperating with federal and state investigators on the case.
Roane County Sheriff Jack Stockton is very familiar with Daniel Hampton. In fact, Stockton said he has "known of his criminal activity and ruthless behavior for years. He is a danger to the community."
Hampton moved to Rhea County in April.
