A group of Cumberland County citizens has formed "Cumberland Education Advocates" to push for more funding for schools through a higher property tax.
The group is pushing for a 25-cent property tax increase to help foot the bills, and they say it would still leave residents paying less than most.
"Cumberland County ranks 122 out of 130 school systems across the state," said group member Louise Gorenflo. "Cumberland County should at least rank in the middle of that range."
The group plans to rally on the Cumberland Courthouse steps Friday. So far, they say county commissioners haven't showed much support for their cause.
