UT Medical Center confirmed Sunday that an Oak Ridge girl who was struck by a school bus has died.

The 12 year-old was riding her bicycle Friday near the intersection of Oak Ridge Turnpike and Illinois Avenue when the accident happened.

"It just looked very, very bad," said Dennis McCormick, who was driving right behind the school bus. "There was no response from her. She couldn't talk, she didn't move. The other fellow and myself, we just stood there for a moment and said a prayer to God for her."

Police say the Robertson Middle School 7th grader was riding her bike and somehow fell underneath the bus, where she was run over by the two rear wheels on the passenger side.

There are conflicting reports about whether the girl was wearing a helmet.

Neither the students on the bus nor the driver were injured in the accident.

McCormick says the girl's father just happened to be driving by at the time, and became hysterical when he learned it was his daughter involved in the accident.

Oak Ridge Police Chief David Beams says the bus driver is not at fault in the accident, but he adds the investigation is ongoing.
