For years, rumors have swirled about possible undiscovered Manson family victims, including hitchhikers and runaways. In February Oak Ridge National Laboratory senior researchers Arpad Vass and Marc Wise accompanied a team in search of decades-old graves at a ranch in Death Valley where Charles Manson once hid. The pair used a machine that detects chemicals emitted by human bodies during decomposition to test several possible grave sites. And the results of just-completed followup tests conclude there are two likely clandestine grave sites, and one additional site that merits further investigation. The ad hoc investigative team is now urging law enforcement to dig.
