The Tennessee Department of Transportation is dealing with a loss of $66.3 million in federal funds once allocated for 2008 that have now been rescinded.
TDOT reports that Tennessee has now lost some $237.7 million in federal funds since late 2005.
The rescission of funds affected all states.
About half of TDOT's budget comes from the federal government. TDOT Commissioner Gerald Nicely said the loss of funds and increases in the cost of construction materials make it harder for TDOT to keep up with the state's transportation needs.
This is the second worst funding cut TDOT has seen since December 2005. In March of last year, funding was cut by $73.4 million.
