In some political circles, Tennessee democrat Phil Bredesen makes perfect sense as a ticket partner for either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.
Yet, despite a recommendation from Rep. Lincoln Davis for the job, Bredesen is playing down all the talk of an eventual move to national politics in Washington.
"This is not something that I've been seeking," Bredesen said. "I think there are other people out there who have been actively seeking it, and I think that's much more likely of an outcome."
While Bredesen says it's nice to be mentioned, at this point he's taking most of the rumors as just that--rumors.
But he says it's not that way for everyone in the Bredesen family tree.
"My mother loves it, and every time I see a news article, I clip it and send it to my mother," he said. "She's the only one who takes it seriously."
Republican Congressman Zach Wamp says on the GOP side, he'd like to see Fred Thompson get a serious look by the presumptive Republican nominee, John McCain.
Bredesen was in Blount County speaking to a group of high school students at a congratulatory academic dinner.
