A Knox County man made a bizzare and potentially dangerous discovery Tuesday night.
He found a Civil War cannonball.
The man found the cannonball while wading in a creek behind the Farragut Library branch.
He stepped on the cannonball, picked it up, and started walking toward the library.
He thought better of it, put the unexploded ordnance down, and called 911.
Members of the Knox County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad were called in. The library was evacuated, and residents of a nearby neighborhood were told to stay in their homes.
By 9 p.m. the bomb squad was able to determine the cannonball was safe and that the public was not in danger.
