On August 23 , Pattycake's owners put her and a miniature horse named Stormy up for the night at their home in Sewanee, Tennessee. Sometime around 11pm, they heard noises and looked out and saw the horses' building was on fire.

They rushed to get the horses out but it was too late. Both horses were badly burned, with Pattycake suffering the worst. The horse has third degree burns over 60 percent of her body.

After weeks of intensive care at a veterinary clinic in Suwanee, Pattcake was sent to UT's College of Veterinary medicine for intensive treatment and skin grafts. Dr. Steve Adair leads a team to help Pattycake recover. And while there is still a lot of work to be done, Pattycake's attitude and willingness to do what needs to be done has impressed the staff at the vet school.

An account has been set up to help for Pattycake's veterinary bills at Regions Bank in Sewanee, Tennessee. The account is the Megan D. Taylor/Pattycake Fund.
