Thirty wooden wind turbines got quite a bit of attention before the UT game Saturday.

The 9-foot wind turbines were part of a tailgating party for the orange and white, but the display had a very green purpose. The display was brought in by a non-partisan organization called "Power Vote."

"Basically, we're trying to energize one million young voters to send a loud and clear message to the candidates that when we turn out in record numbers this November, we have clean energy, green jobs at the top of our agenda," said Brianna Cayo-Cotter with Power Vote.

UT is one of the campuses leading the charge in collecting signatures for the Power Vote pledge.

"We're number two in the nation in Power Vote pledges right now, which is awesome. I never thought we would be there against all the Northeastern schools," said UT student Reagan Richmond, who helped start the program on campus.

The Power Vote pledge says that the participant pledges to make clean energy a top priority in their vote.

"We're just telling everyone to sign up on the Power Vote pledge to really show our elected officials that we want to see real leadership on climate and energy issues," said Richmond.

The wind turbine display is stopping at all the presidential debates and made the stop on UT's campus on Saturday before heading to Belmont for the debate in Nashville Tuesday.
