Knoxville's K-9 cops will soon be a little safer.

The Enrichment Federal Credit Union raised $12,000 for the Knoxville Police Department through their Pet Pals program.

The money will go to purchase new safety vests for the department's K-9 officers.

"These are our partners, we spend more time with them than anybody out in the field so we want to make sure they go home, and they're safe just as much as our human officers are," KPD Officer Pete Franzen said.

The department is researching the newest, safest kinds of vests before deciding which ones to purchase.
