When a son threatened to kill his father and his father's wife, then tried to kick in their door, the father let him have it in the chest with a .38 revolver, according to the Loudon County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to a home on Shaw Ferry Road to investigate a shooting. When they arrived, they found Todd Aaron Edwards, 37 and of Lenoir City, sitting in a grassy area of the yard, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest.

Deputies would later recover a .38 revolver belonging to his father.

Investigators determined that Todd Edwards had called his father, 66-year-old Pierce Edwards, and threatened to kill them, if he could get into the house.

They found Todd Edwards' vehicle parked directly in front of the door and evidence that someone had tried to kick the door in.

They also found a pair of bullet holes where Pierce Edwards shot through the door, hitting Todd Edwards at least once in the chest.

Todd Edwards was taken to UT Medical Center. He was in serious condition early Friday afternoon.

Sheriff Tim Guider said Pierce Edwards and his wife had been fearful of Todd Edwards previously, and had stayed at a hotel once rather than their own home, out of fear he'd come to the house.

On Tuesday Todd Edwards was arrested at his home without incident following an investigation by the Loudon County Sheriff's Department. He is being charged with attempted aggravated burglarly.
