Democratic gubernatorial candidates meet potential voters

The primary election is more than a year away, but the democratic candidates for Tennessee governor are on the campaign trail, trying to drum up support.

Democratic governor Phil Bredesen can not seek another term. 4 of the 5 candidates who hope to replace him attended the Cumberland County Democratic picnic Monday night at Cumberland Mountain State Park.

Kim McMillan, of Clarksville, was the state's first female House majority leader. Senator Ron Herron, represents the 24th district, which encompasses Benton, Decatur, Henry, Henderson, Lake, Obion, Perry, Stewart, and Weakley counties. Ward Cammack, Jr, is a prominent member of Nashville's financial services industry. Mike McWherter, is a Jackson businessman, and the son of former Tennessee governor, Ned Ray McWherter. Senator James Kyle, Jr., of Memphis, was unable to attend the event.

The primary election is set for August 5.
