Update: Authorities release identity of drowning victim

Grainger County dispatchers said crews recovered the body of a drowning victim in Cherokee Lake.

The incident happened in Bean Station near Highway 25-East.

According to TVA spokesman Mike Harris, Ryan Michael Lucas, 20, of Morristown was swimming with another male in Circle Park Saturday night. When Lucas disappeared, his friend, also in his twenties, called authorities around 12:30 a.m.

The Grainger County Rescue Squad recovered Lucas' body around 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

His body was transported to UT Medical Center.

Officials said no foul play is suspected.

Several agencies responded to the scene, including the Bean Station Police Department, Fire Department and Rescue Squad, as well as the Grainger County Rescue Squad. Officials said surrounding counties also assisted.
