
Wednesday, it was confirmed that President Barack Obama would not be attending the Smokies' 75th anniversary celebration on September 2. How significant do you feel the President's decision not to attend is?
The September 2 celebration of the Smokies' anniversary as a park will include numerous dignitaries, including the Secretary of the Interior. The President will not be in attendance.
The White House confirmed Wednesday that President Barack Obama will not be attending the September 2 event marking the Great Smoky Mountains National Park's 75th anniversary.
However, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will be in attendance, as will numerous other high-profile figures.
Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation Michele Hicks will be in attendance.
Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen will be on hand, as will North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue.
Tennessee Senators Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander plan to be present. Their counterparts from North Carolina, Kay Hagan and Richard Burr, also plan to attend.
Congressmen Phil Roe, Jimmy Duncan, Zach Wamp, and Heath Shuler also plan to be there.
The 75th Anniversary Ambassador and Sevier County native Dolly Parton will also be there.
The event is set to start at 11:15 a.m. on September 2 at Newfound Gap.
