Tennessee Valley Fair Opens at Chilhowee Park

The 2009 Tennessee Valley Fair runs September 11-20 at Chilhowee Park. This year brings about fair favorites like rides, food, musical acts and action sports. There are also all kinds of agriculture displays showcasing everything from cattle to rabbits.

On Opening day, there will be $1 admission price for the first 90 minutes of the fair. Fairgoers must enter the Fairground gates between 3pm and 4:30pm to be eligible.

This year, they're bringing in the Aussie Kingdom show featuring all types of animals from down under including kangaroos, lizards, birds, wallaroos and wallabies. There will be three daily shows at the fair.

On the evening of September 11, there's the Princess Pageant at 7pm and then Rick Springfield will perform at 8pm (Reserved Tickets are $10)

The Fairest of the Fair will take place on September 12 at 8pm at the Homer Hamilton Theatre. The Junior Fairest of the Fair Pageant is at 4:30pm

On September 13, Bluegrass Band Seldom Scene at 8pm. There will also be the American Racing Mower Association Professional Lawn Mower Races at 2pm

Molly Hatchet will perform at the Fair on Monday, September 14 at 8pm. There is also an Ice Cream Eating Contest at 11:30am sponsored by Mayfield Dairy.

On Tuesday, September 15, Randy Houser will perform. It's also the Patriotic Day, celebrating our Hometown Heroes. Current and past military, policeman, deputy sheriff's firemen, first-aid responders and current teachers are admitted for $1 each (up to 4 per family with proper identification).

Wednesday, September 16 the highlight is the Legends of Wrestling. It's also Tennessee Education Lottery day, folks get $2 off adult admission with any non-winning Tennessee Lottery ticket.

On Thursday, September 17, Chuck Wicks performs at 8pm. There's also the Jasper's Mascot Parade at 7pm presented by Knoxmoms.com

Friday, September 18 the headliner is the Sugar Hill Game. It's also 80's night at the fair complete with a Moonwalk and Rubik's Cube contest, Karaoke contest and best dressed wins VIP Tickets to the Sugar Hill Contest!

Saturday, September 19 brings Luke Bryan to the Homer Hamilton Theatre. He'll perform at 8pm and look out for Barney Fife, he'll be checking out the Mayberry Day festivities including an Opie look-alike contest and pie eating contest.

Sunday, September 20, the last day of the fair features Craig Morgan in concert at 8pm. It's also La Fiesta Latina VII at 2pm in the Pepsi Community tent.

Hours

Gates & Buildings open at 3pm on Opening Friday and Wed-Friday. 10am on Saturdays, Monday and Tuesday; Noon on Sundays. Gates close nightly at midnight

Midway opens at 4pm on Opening Day and Wednesday through Friday; 3pm on Tuesday; 10am on Saturdays and Monday; Noon on Sundays.
