Suspect bitten by K-9 after rock thrown at police car

(WBIR-Knoxville) A homeless man was bit by a K-9 after officers said he threw a rock at a KPD cruiser early Sunday morning.

Around 3 a.m., Jeff Allgood, with the Knoxville Police Department, was on patrol, in a marked car, near Jackson Avenue and Gay Street, when the suspect allegedly hurled a rock at the driver side window.

Officers said the man, identified as Corey Keith Isbell, 39, ran into the Norfolk Southern train yard.

A K-9 tracked down Isbell in a nearby wooded area, but he refused to surrender, according to police.

KPD said the dog bit Isbell on his legs, allowing officers to arrest him.

Isbell, who suffered minor injuries, has been charged with felony aggravated assault, felony vandalism, evading arrest, public intoxication, and criminal trespassing on railroad property.

Norfolk Southern had to stop all train train traffic for roughly 30 minutes during the incident for the safety of officers and the suspect in the train yard.
