An incident on I-75 North Monday afternoon led to major traffic backups and a large law enforcement response.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office says a North Carolina man driving an SUV crashed into the back of a tractor trailer just past the Raccoon Valley Road exit, at mile marker 117.
The tractor trailer driver checked on the SUV driver and he appeared to be fine.
According to KCSO, it appears that after he was checked on the SUV driver then shot himself.
Emergency crews took him to UT Medical Center.
One lane of I-75N was shut down, and traffic backed up for several miles. All lanes of the interstate have since reopened.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
