PIGEON FORGE - Dollywood's newest attraction, Drop Line, opens to the public on Saturday. The ride involves a 230-foot free-fall that overlooks the entire park.
Riders sit in a circular car that slowly spins as it rises 20 stories into the air. When it reaches the top, riders are treated to a breathtaking view of the Great Smoky Mountains -- but don't get too comfortable!
Once the ride reaches the top, it suddenly drops about 230 feet in just a few seconds.
"We really have not had anything like this at Dollywood," public relations director Pete Owens said.
Owens said the park decided to add the attraction last fall. Over the last week crews have been conducting ride rehearsals, with test riders walking away with "a lot of smiles and a lot of screams", Owens said.
The Drop Line is located in the Timber Canyon part of the park.
WBIR 10News reporter Raishad Hardnett got to be one of the first people to ride the new ride and shared his experience after he had had time to recover. He wasn't thrilled by the prospect of falling from the sky, but Drop Line still thrilled him plenty nonetheless! Watch his reaction below:
