TVA program changes halt KCS solar panel initiative

Efforts to bring more solar power to Knox County schools are over due to changes in TVA's Green Power Providers program.

According to the Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett's office, changes in the plan will halt plans to install solar panels on Knox County school rooftops.

TVA is offering incentives for groups that support and implement low-cost cleaner energy, but the mayor's office says new rules reduced the amount TVA was willing to pay "green power providers" and cut the solar incentive.

Because of the changes, Mayor Burchett and Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre say the plan was no longer feasible.
