UT wants to block info about Pat Summitt related to lawsuit

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee has filed a motion for a protective order forbidding discovery of information related to former Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt's illness and the circumstances surrounding her departure in a former school official's lawsuit against the university.

Debby Jennings, the former Lady Vols media director, is suing Tennessee and athletic director Dave Hart over allegations that age and sex discrimination led to her forced retirement after working 35 years at the school.

Summitt stepped down as the Tennessee women's basketball coach in April 2012, one year after announcing she had early-onset dementia, Alzheimer's type.

The filing includes statements from her son, Tyler Summitt, as well as Hart and Chancellor Jimmy Cheek saying Hart gave Summitt the option of continuing to coach or becoming head coach emeritus.
