Welcome to the new WBIR.com

You've no doubt noticed things look a little different here at WBIR.com. We've made some changes, and we hope the result is a better experience for our users.

First off, you may recognize our new look if you've ever visited the website for USA Today. We are owned by the same company, Gannett, and are proud to model our online look after one of the most successful newspapers and websites in the world. That being said, we are the first local television station to try out this new website, so there will no doubt be a learning curve for us, so we ask for your patience as we figure out how to make this format work best to get you the news and information you need.

One of the things we are most excited about with this new website is the homepage. The new layout allows us to highlight the most important news of the day, whether it's a local, national, or international story, and the great stories about our community that we love to tell. It will also be easier for you to access video and photo galleries that help tell those stories.

Also on the home page, you will see a listing of all of the most recent stories, videos, and galleries added to WBIR.com on the right side of the page. This will ensure you always know the latest happenings in East Tennessee and the world.

On the left side of the page, you will get quick links to send us an email or news tip, to see what's on Channel 10, get the latest from our shows on Fox 43, and the recipes featured on our shows. That's also where you will find links to our news casts that are streaming online.

Other live video feeds can be found at the top of the home page, when available.

You will also find your community page underneath the latest headlines on the home page, where you can select the county where you live and read news and find out about events happening in your neighborhood.

Getting around the new WBIR.com

Now let's take a look at the navigation of the page, so you can find the specific information or section you are looking for.

If you click on the news tab in the banner at the top of the page, you can choose to read local or national news, our 10News investigative reports or political news. You can also find some of our favorite series produced at Channel 10: Service and Sacrifice, Homegrown, or Your Stories.

Next to news in the navigation bar, you'll see the weather tab, featuring the current temperature. If you hover over the temperature, you'll get a quick snapshot of the day's forecast. If you click on it, you will be taken to the new WBIR.com weather page. There, you'll find everything you need to plan your day, and beyond, from the latest video forecast, interactive radar, weather maps, and skycams. You can also watch our latest Ask Todd features, where Chief Meteorologist Todd Howell answers viewer questions about the weather. You will also find our WBIR Weather twitter feed.

The traffic tab next to weather will take you to our Beat the Traffic page, where you can see the current road conditions in your area and on your route, including construction delays and accidents. You can also find a link to current gas price information anywhere in the country. You just have to search by zip code.

You'll find the sports page next on the navigation bar, where you'll get the latest UT, high school, and other sports stories and scores. USA Today also provides the Sports Pulse, with all the latest sports information you need from across the country.

The new Life section on WBIR.com is your gateway to our Straight from the Heart content, entertainment and community news, watercooler stories, recipes, the Heartland Series, the latest from Positively Schwall, and contests. You could spend hours exploring here!

In the About section, you'll learn about WBIR, our staff, and our commitment to the community. You will also find our programming guide, how to apply for a job or internship at WBIR, and how to get in touch with us.

Next to that, you'll see a picture of a camera. If you click on that, it will take you to a page containing all of our recent videos and photo galleries posted to WBIR.com, and you can sort them by most popular or most recent.

We hope you'll take the time to look around and explore the new features and content on WBIR.com. We also ask for your patience, as our staff transitions to a new way of doing things. It will take a little time before we get everything right, and you will no doubt find links that may not work or stories showing up in the wrong place. If you do, please, let us know, in the comments on this story or on our Facebook page. You can also email us at news@wbir.com. There are a lot of new elements on this new website, and we are sure to miss a thing or two!
