(WBIR) Authorities released Friday morning the 911 call that started a standoff in a west Knox County motel in May.
During the call, David Smith admitted to killing three people in Florida before traveling to East Tennessee. He told the dispatcher that he killed his sister because she was "evil."
WBIR 10News listened to the call Friday afternoon, but decided to not post the audio on the website because it's obvious Smith suffered from a mental illness from the nature of the call.
The standoff at the Days Inn on Parkwest Boulevard at Cedar Bluff lasted several hours. During the incident, Smith fired two shots from his motel room. No one was hit, but deputies and officers expanded the perimeter and evacuated the area around the motel.
The SWAT team fired tear gas into the motel room, and five minutes later, took Smith into custody. Officials said before he was taken into custody, Smith shot himself. Crews took him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he later died. No one else was hurt.
Detectives in Florida said Smith shot and killed his sister, Daniella Smith, her partner, Miranda Mims, and Nikosi Williams.
