Barbecue contest brings top teams from 14 states

Knoxville is hosting the second annual Rocky Top Hummin' & Strummin' BBQ Cook-off this weekend.

Friday night, top teams from across the country gave barbecue fans a taste of things to come. The teams competed in categories like best beans, best sausage and best dessert.

Saturday those same teams will compete in the barbecue cook off.

Event creator Oliver A. Smith says there's a lot on the line.

"It's also part of the triple crown event with Maryville and Sevierville with a $10,000 prize," said Smith. "So people are here for the money and to take home the gold."

The cook-off begins Saturday at noon.

Teams will compete in four categories: chicken, pork ribs, pork butt and beef brisket.
