Dispatch: Middlebrook Pike reopens after tank truck fire

Authorities took one person to the hospital for minor injuries after a West Knoxville tanker truck fire.

Knoxville firefighters controlled the fire at Middlebrook Pike and Knott Road around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Middlebrook Pike has since reopened as of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Knox County Dispatch.

The tank carried between 6,000-8,000 gallons of ethanol, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.

The truck's driver noticed flames coming from the engine compartment around 7 a.m. Thursday. The driver tried to put out the fire using an onboard extinguisher. KFD said the driver slowed the flames until first responders arrived.

Crews took the driver to the hospital for minor injuries after extinguishing the fire.
