Obama gets to work; Clinton confirmed by Senate

President Barack Obama settled in on day one with a whirlwind of decisions, events and meetings.

His focus was the economy, but the new commander in chief issued marching orders on Iraq and on the treatment of terror detainees.

On his first morning, President Barack Obama went to the oval office alone.

After ten minutes, calling in Chief of Staff Rahn Emanuel to get to work

To Guantanamo Bay, Mr. Obama sent an order to halt terrorist trials.

He'll find a new way to jail, question and try detainees.

President Obama called Middle East leaders, to pledge new U.S. peace efforts.

At a mid morning interfaith service, prayers for the new president.

Hillary Clinton was confirmed as Secretary of State with a 94-2 vote.

But Obama treasury secretary nominee Tim Geithner had a tough hearing.

To some, he isn't merely the best choice. To some, he is the only choice. Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa said.

Geithner and President Obama want quick passage of 500 billion dollars in stimulus spending.

Republicans object.

Government can't revive this econ, the American people can if we allow them to keep more of what they earn," said House Minority Leader John Boehner.

But President Obama will push for passage of his mix of spending and taxes by next month
