"I'm not wired to operate under the same old politics as usual."

Gov. Sarah Palin said Friday.

Alaska governor Sarah Palin's bombshell decision to quit office has Republicans asking whether one of their biggest stars has just flamed out.

GOP Strategist Karl Rove speculates she may be trying to capture national attention.

"It is not clear what her strategy here is by exiting the Governorship two and a half years through the term and putting herself on the national stage that she may not yet be prepared to operate in."

Another strategist Ed Rollins says it did not look good for Palin.

"Friday was a disaster for her, both in the sense that she was very incoherent in articulating what it was - why she was quitting, and what she wanted to do with it."

The Governor said she didn't want to be a lame duck -- or a political target.

Her successor, Lt. Governor Sean Parnell, said she's doing the right thing.

"She made the comment I need to pass the ball when I got the four (sic) court press on me, so we can move Alaska forward."

Some say she can now concentrate on a 2012 presidential run; others say she's committed career suicide.

Her onetime campaign rival, Vice President Joe Biden, refused to criticize her decision.

"I take her at her word that it had a personal ingredient in it, and you have to respect that."

As for Palin --

"We're not retreating - we are advancing in another direction."

She suggests she's out ... But not going anywhere.
