RENO, Nevada - Two get-out-the-vote canvassers may have saved an elderly woman’s life in Sparks on Tuesday afternoon.
Lisa Fabish and Caryn Wiseman were knocking on doors at an apartment complex on Greenbrae Drive when they heard screaming.
“At first we weren’t sure what she was saying,” Fabish said. “She was able to crawl over and open the door.”
An elderly woman was lying on the floor and told them she hadn’t been able to get up for two weeks.
Wiseman called 911.
The woman said her bird had died because she hadn’t been able to get up to feed the animal, Fabish said, and that she’d had to drink out of the toilet.
The woman said she always paid her rent on time but couldn’t, so Wiseman and another canvasser, Valerie Gardner, paid her rent for her, Fabish said.
“She said she was so upset because she wasn’t going to get to vote for Hillary today and Caryn said I’m sure Hillary will forgive you,” Fabish said.
Nancy Hoffman, a Washoe County Democratic Party volunteer, said she learned the woman had been transported by paramedics to St. Mary’s. “The Democrats are trying to get her an absentee ballot,” Hoffman said.
