Pregnant woman hit by car, driver charged with aggravated assault

(WBIR-Knoxville) A Knoxville man who was taking a pregnant woman to a medical appointment was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after police said his tire hit her.

The driver, Duane Banks, 40, works for a local company that contracts through TennCare. Police said Banks they got into an argument after she asked to make a stop.

KPD said Banks made the woman get out of the vehicle at the corner of N. Broadway and Atlantic Avenue around 9 a.m. Friday. Officers said she somehow got caught in the door as Banks drove off, and was dragged for a short distance. Police said the tires hit her leg.

The woman, who is in her 36th week of pregnancy, was transported to U.T. Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Banks was charged with Aggravated Assault, along Reckless Endangerment for the unborn child.
