Prices for prison phone calls set to drop

New changes for prison phone calls mean state inmates will pay a lot less the next time they call family or friends.

The FCC changed the rules after several complaints. Inmates once were paying more than $12 for a 15-minute phone call.

That rate will now drop to $3.75 for a quarter hour, about a 70-percent drop.

The changes come after several organizations and advocacy groups filed complaints with the FCC.

The new rules go into effect Friday.
