Animal rescue officials hope people will provide foster homes for nearly 140 puppies and adult dogs now being housed at the Dyer County Fairgrounds.

The pure-breed dogs were taken from a suspected puppy mill in Obion County on Sunday. The Humane Society says the breeds include Boston terriers, French bulldogs, King Charles spaniels, cocker spaniels, Yorkies, poodles, mixed poodles, Pekingese, Pomeranians, Dachshunds and other terriers.

Most are adults that were used for breeding. There have been no arrests and the name of the property owner hasn't been released.

Officials say the animals were in cages stacked under portable carports.
