Sen. Corker: 'We have never faced a terror group like this'

U.S. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) said he thinks America needs to wake up to the new terror threat brewing in the Middle East.

"We have never faced a terrorist organization like the one that exists in Syria and Iraq," Sen. Corker said. " They share a border and go back back and forth - the most dastardly, demonic terror group."

Senator Corker stopped by News Channel 11 on Thursday while in the Tri-Cities. He's touring his home state during the Congressional recess, but the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said he's keeping close watch on developments in the Middle East, specifically involving the terror group ISIS. The group recently beheaded a kidnapped American journalist.

"This is not a group of people who can be rehabilitated," Corker said.

Corker said ISIS recruits are "the baddest of the bad."

"I'm not an alarmist and say we face a threat tomorrow in our country but in the future if they grow they're going to want to do more high profile damage," Corker said.

Corker blamed the Obama administration for failing to lead during the crisis in Syria last year, what he calls the beginning of a dramatic downward slide in the world's perception of America as a super-power.

"One of the reasons we're facing a group like this has been our lack of any kind of policy in Syria and our desire to so hastily leave Iraq," Corker said. "I think this President is totally uncomfortable being commander in chief and I think it's been very detrimental to our country."
