Tennessee flags lowered to honor Mandela

Gov. Bill Haslam announced Friday morning that state flags will be lowered to half-staff at the Tennessee Capitol and all state buildings to mark the death of former South African President Nelson Mandela.

The move comes after President Barack Obama issued a proclamation that ordered all United States flags lowered to half-staff until sunset Monday in honor of Mandela.

State flags already were scheduled to be lowered to half-staff from sunset Friday to sunrise Monday to mark the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
