It's already beginning to look a lot like Christmas in one East Tennessee community.

Millions of lights are strung throughout Sevier County to celebrate the winter season and will be turned on at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday during a special ceremony.

Winterfest 2009 in Sevierville started at the Municipal Complex on Dolly Parton Parkway at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The celebration includes local choirs, dancers, majorettes and performances by Cirque de Chine. Those festivities will continue until the lighting ceremony. Santa Claus is also expected to make an appearance. A fireworks show will follow the lighting ceremony.

This is the 20th year for Winterfest in the Smokies, which runs through the end of February. A new addition to this year's celebration are 3-D glasses, which will be available at the kickoff event and Sevierville Vistors' Center throughout Winterfest.

The event's location will be closed off to traffic, so officials said guests should arrive early to find parking.

Winterfest kicks off in Gatlinburg on Wednesday, Nov. 4 and in Pigeon Forge on Nov. 5.
