Veterinarians at the UT veterinary school report a dog, dragged behind a vehicle, continues to improve and is now able to stand.

The dog, known as Little Brown Dog, was badly scraped and even had the bones in her paws ground down to half-thickness in the dragging.

Since she was brought in to the vet school, however, her condition has improved to the point that she is able to stand on her own for short periods of time.

Veterinarians are now tapering off the dog's pain medication regiment, which is allowing more awareness and personality to be visible. The vets said the dog is wagging her tail and has been able to go outside for short periods of time.

Previous: Dog, dragged behind vehicle in Knoxville, upgraded to stable condition

A dog whose dragging sparked outrage in Knoxville has been upgraded to stable condition at the University of Tennessee veterinary school.

The dog, known at this point only as the Little Brown Dog, suffered severe burns, scrapes, and even had the bones in her paws ground down to half their original thickness.

Early Monday, the vet school said the dog was still in critical condition. At that point, surgeons had managed to suture about half the dog's wounds closed. The dog remained in the ICU at the UT Small Animal Hospital.

Late Monday afternoon, the vet school reported the dog had been upgraded to stable condition, and that about three fourths of the dog's wounds had been closed.

The vet school has seen an outpouring of support from around the country for the dog, with even some calls and donations from Canada.

In all, $5,000 has been donated for the dog's care at this point.

The man accused of dragging Little Brown Dog, Jimmy Lovell, is due in court on Friday. He has posted bond and been released from jail.
