Sevier County businesses are doing their best to attract customers to the area following the busy holiday season.

The Gatlinburg Department of Tourism said it expects a decrease in tourism this time each year, however it said warm temperatures have helped to soften the blow.

The Cowboy Way, a clothing store in downtown Gatlinburg, said it's been attracting a lot of customers who are on day trips because of the good weather.

"The warm weather and sunshine is really a good thing," said sales associate Olivia King.

Store manager Michael Duncan said his shop was packed during the holiday season.  He said the current downtime give the Cowboy Way time to refresh.

"It gives our staff the chance to go back in, re-look at the store, reorganize it and stock it," Duncan said.

The county is still attracting tourists to its conventions as well.

For the next two weekends, the Gatlinburg Conference Center will be home to Resurrection 2012, a youth ministry conference.  Gatlinburg Tourism Department Spokesperson Jim Davis said that conference should attract 6,000 kids each weekend.

Meanwhile, the Wilderness Wildlife Week conference is underway at the Music Road Hotel in Pigeon Forge.  The free event brings together 150 wildlife experts who will discuss environmental topics and aspects of mountain culture.

"Nature centers from as far away as Michigan, Illinois and Florida come to this and many people plan their vacation around it every year," said founder Ken Jenkins.

The event, which will feature hikes, field trips and "owl prowls" will end next Saturday.  This is the 22nd year it has taken place.
