A Knoxville-based charity working to spread joy through beautiful bouquets is celebrating a major milestone Tuesday.
Tuesday morning, Shirley Thurman received the 10,000th bouquet from "Random Acts of Flowers."
The charity's volunteers collect and re-use flowers from weddings, memorial services, stores, and other places to re-purpose and deliver them to patients in area hospitals and other care centers.
Tuesday, volunteers and staff from "Random Acts of Flowers" gathered at Tennova Physician's Regional Medical Center to celebrate their big milestone.
The founder, Larsen Jay, said, "It's a really important day. It's not just about today, but it's about where we are going and how many more patients we can deliver to."
Jeffrey Ashin, the CEO of Physicians Regional Medical Center, said, "It's very exciting for us because I know what it means to our patients. To be in the hospital, to be ill, it brightens your day."
Volunteers make bi-weekly deliveries to patients across Knoxville and the surrounding communities.
"Random Acts of Flowers" is also taking steps this year to expand its work into other cities. You can get more information on their website.
