Suffering the loss of a beloved pet is a hard thing, but one group at UT tried to make that loss a little easier on Friday night. UT's Department of Veterinary Social Work held a Pet Memorial on the College's Ag campus.

The memorial included a brief service where people read their favorite moments with their deceased pet, followed by a benediction. The night is meant to help pet owners cope with the loss by recalling their favorite moments with the pets and sharing those moments with others.

"We do it to bring folks together to, one teach them new ways to grieve, a lot of times when we are grieving the loss of our animals, we try and use our head because that's how we have been taught how to grieve, and this gives them a way to connect with their heart," said Sarine Lyall with the Veterinary Social Work Program.

After the service, participants made a memory book so they can look back on their pets life. There will be another service this coming spring.
