So far, this year has been pretty crazy weather-wise, and Hawkins County residents are getting prepared.

Over 100 people attended this National Weather Service weather spotter class in Rogersville. With the storms last April in Greene County, and the recent storms in surrounding Lee County, Virginia, the Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency wanted to make sure people were prepared and knew what to look for, both for their safety, and to help with emergency response.

"When the weather service puts out a warning or a watch, they'll know what to look for. They are going to be able to help us. They will be able to call the weather service and let them know what they are seeing, size of the hail and everything. That tells them where the storm is, how it's traveling, and what-not," said Gary Murrell with Hawkins County EMA.

If you would like to find a class in your area, go to the Morristown National Weather Service website.
