UPDATE:
Knoxville police have identified the wrong-way driver killed in a head-on collision on Alcoa Highway early Saturday morning as 25-year-old Tiffany Tate.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Two people went to the hospital after a head-on collision on Alcoa Highway early Saturday morning.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. near I.C. King Park, according to a release from the Knoxville Police Department.
A driver was headed northbound in the southbound lanes and collided, head-on, with a Royal Taxi minivan.
The wrong-way driver suffered life-threatening injuries, according to KPD, while the taxi driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers underwent surgery at UT Medical Center.
Names have not yet been released pending notification of family members.
The investigation is ongoing.
