A burglar picked the wrong time and place to steal a computer over the weekend.

Nearly 200 people were attending a dinner at Union County High School Saturday when the fire alarm went off.

The Union County Sheriff's Office says some of its deputies, including K9 officers were attending.

They cased the building and found a fire in a classroom.

Sprinklers put it out, but authorities discovered a broken window and a missing laptop.

The K-9s tracked a scent to a wooded area where they found 36-year-old Dennis Dykes hiding.

He was arrested and is facing charges.
