Thanks to the fast thinking of neighbors, a west Knoxville man was able to escape his burning home Monday morning.
According to a Knoxville Fire Department spokesman, the man was not aware his home on the 1300 block of Wilshire was burning.
Neighbors woke the man up letting him know the fire had extended outside the home.
The spokesman says firefighters found heavy smoke and fire when they arrived.
The spokesman also says the man was shaken up, but refused to be taken to the hospital.
Firefighters had the fire under control around 7:00 a.m.
At the time of this posting, officials have blocked one lane of traffic on Northshore and Wilshire. They expected it to be closed for most of the morning commute.
