A fight between neighbors on Bug Hole Road in Harrogate sent one man to the hospital with birdshot in him, and another man to the Claiborne County jail.
According to Detective Bob Morelock with the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department, the fight between Donny Partin and Lee Calvin Carmack had been escalating for weeks.
The disagreement was over a piece of land that neither man had control over, Morelock said.
Witnesses told investigators that Partin was taunting Carmack late Tuesday evening. Carmack said he thought Partin had something in his hand, though investigators later indicated there was no evidence found to prove that.
Morelock said Carmack fired multiple shots at Partin from a 12 gauge shotgun, hitting Partin once.
Partin was treated and released from a hospital.
Carmack was charged with aggravated assault and could face additional charges, Morelock said. He was being held in the Claiborne County jail with no bond.
